Bringing his album 'Indigo Child' to life
Thinking of the moment when he decided he wanted to become a producer Da Capo explains: “I simply had a lot of love for music, but I was more like a hip-hop artist, so I got influenced by my friends who introduced me to house music. From there I just loved one song. I fell in love with it so much that I wanted to imitate it and produce something like that. I think that’s where everything clicked.”
"I simply had a lot of love for music."
For his performance at Red Bull Music presents Beyond the Sound, Da Capo decided to bring part of his album ‘Indigo Child’ to life. “It’s an album that mainly focuses on vocalists, not me as an artist alone. So basically bringing all the performers together we try to define ‘Indigo Child’ as a whole.
Included in his set was 'Thando Lwami' featuring Ms Dippy, 'Afrika' featuring Tshepo King & 'Ndipendule' featuring SoulStar
Speaking of his influences Da Capo says that he listens to all types of music and fuses them together. “I could listen to your jazz type of sound, I could listen to your techno type of sound, I can listen to your soul type of sound and then I try to actually bring them together to create a specific genre.”
"I haven’t ever played live with anybody. We’re just trying it."
His performance for Red Bull Music presents Beyond the Sound will be his first time playing live with other musicians. “I haven’t ever played live with anybody. We’re just trying it. Yesterday we had a session where we were just putting all the sounds together and by the looks of things I think it can work out pretty well.”
"I loved the name, I loved the definition of Da Capo."
Da Capo’s name came about because a DJ in Polokwane had a similar name as his previous DJ alias. “I went on Google and I searched for an Italian dictionary and that’s when I came across Da Capo. I loved the name, I loved the definition of Da Capo.” he says of his name which is a musical term which means to repeat from the beginning.
For 2018, Da Capo is planning on taking his album on tour. “Basically what we’re planning to do this year is we’re going to be touring around South Africa, we’re going to be doing the Indigo Child Tour. And secondly there is a tour that I will be doing in Europe in a couple of weeks from now. There’s an Ibiza Black Coffee residence so I think I’ll be doing that as well. So there are plenty of shows that are coming for the year.”
